English illustrator Cicely Mary Barker, who is best known for her depictions of fairies & flowers, was born #OTD in 1895. Kate Greenaway and the Pre Raphaelites (John Everett Millais & Edward Burne-Jones in particular) were huge influences on her style.

It's Monday so here are the vibrant paintings of Matisse to brighten your day. His hope by painting with bold colors was that it would "spread joy" to those who saw them.

Happy birthday to Kathryn Beaumont. She was the voice of both Alice & Wendy Darling in Disney's animated adaptations of Alice in Wonderland & Peter Pan. After Peter Pan, Kathryn went on to get her degree in education & became an elementary school teacher. She taught for 36 years.

What I love about kids is their natural inclination towards story. They enjoy making up their own as well as asking an adult to tell them one. Story is a way of connection & a way of understanding the world.
