I recently finished a bunch of scientific illustration commissions for ARUP Group including this Small Heath Butterfly. Usually I draw insects traditionally but I had so much fun creating this using my iPad. Love the end result too!

I have an ongoing pyjama squid party that I add onto when I have or when I'm struggling & stressed about commissions.

while I'm currently doing a masters in I'm also interested in and the majority of my is pen & ink stippling, and I tend to draw inspiration from what I'm studying.

here are a few critters from my time as an RA on the oceanic flux project:

I was recently commissioned by a genetics company to design a series of colourful illustrations for a disease-themed educational card game! Here's a few of my favorites from the project! :-)

Here's some Hognose snake illustrations I did recently for a care guide I'm putting together in my spare time. I used my own Danger Noodle for reference. He's such a character!

From here on out, it's a balancing act of what to hide and what to show. The color is super bright now, to handle being covered by subsequent layers. It's going to all tone down into the subtle beauty these fishes offer.

More ink. Now you can see the forms coming together. Stippling is weirdly relaxing for me, almost meditative. I can make dots all day long.

This would be nice just as an ink drawing! But, not the plan.

The "but" is that I got it done, and realized I hadn't paid as much attention as possible to key details. I hadn't counted the rays on the fins, for example. That's fine for a pretty picture, but not if this was for a journal article. Already learning! Here's a gif of progress.

After learning that science art is a field unto itself (vs a specialized subset of illustration) I wanted to join in too! So to get started, I picked a favorite topic: aquarium fish. This is a Cardinal Tetra. They're related to Neon Tetras, with more red. I liked this a lot, but.
