🇩🇪 High Gothic armour of the late 15th CE has long been considered the supreme achievement of the armourer’s art, epitomising the ‘knight in shining armour’.

According to tradition, the armour originally belonged to prince Waldemar VI of Anhalt Zerbst/Köthen (1450-1508).

Horse armour (XXVIH.18)

As the Mughal Empire expanded across almost the entire subcontinent in the 16th-18th centuries, heavy cavalry from across northern and central India fought in armour constructed from mail and steel plate. This armour dates to that period.

Showing the system in both open & closed positions we see how pulling the lever down cocks the striker and drops the breech block at the same time, the latter hitting an extension on the extractor which throws the empty case out

In August 2017 we welcomed the Winged Hussars, a crack team of fast-riding, sharp-shooting, sabre-rattling cavalrymen from Poland. They delivered a series of spectacular featuring the traditional uniforms and skills of 17CE cavalry

in 1508, Maximilian I was proclaimed Holy Roman Emperor - the 1st in centuries not to be crowned by the Pope as the journey to Rome was deemed too dangerous.
The collection houses a set of engravings of the 28 statues placed around Maximillian's tomb in Innsbruck in 1519
