I realized while hunting for shiny Tatsugiri last night that the name comes from tatsu(another word for dragon in Japanese) + giri, as in, nigiri sushi which it likes to imitate.
In Japanese, the Pokémon is called シャリタツ (sharitatsu) which is shari(sushi rice)+ tatsu(dragon)
When I found out that Mario's Japanese voice actor is Mamoru Miyano of all people
