My first time drawing with willow charcoal sticks, I kinda forgot that charcoal smudges really easily and basically had to redo the face twice. Maybe happy accidents do happen.

In between my oil paintings, I'm practising with charcoal - I've got a long way to go but it's a start. I'm trying the technique of blocking in the shadow areas before bringing the detail out.
