Born on this day 1633, in Deventer, the completely amazing artist Gesina ter Borch. Here by herself, w/ a poem in her praise below, 1661. ‘Her virtue, honor, and art cannot be praised enough!’.

15 Nov 1661, a woman carves into a tree. It's probably the artist Gesina Ter Borch herself who scratches her motto "Virtue Makes Beauty" into the bark, with a reference to her sweetheart, Henrik Jordis.

She's left her gloves, fan & shawl nearby.
