I came across a picture of this beautiful circa 1830s silk veil and I just had to draw Crowley in it (and also maybe because I’m a sucker for the idea that they used a veil to cover their eyes)

Another one of my #dtiys is this! ✨
I'm really interested in historically accurate costumes and that's what I did on Sarah Conradson's latest DTIYS. I don't know if I got it right but this is based on 1830s women's attire.

In 1830s fullness was back in fashion after the antique inspired airiness of regency fashion. There's also clear influences from baroque with the big sleeves with slits, low shoulders and dramatic shapes.
Historically Accurate Ariel
Here's Ariel in 1830s dress. She was yet hardest to place in a period. The film seemed to have a vague 18th/19th century setting, but the costumes were all over the place, so I just decided to focus on her princess dress. #disneyprincess #digitalart
By contrast, Catherine Macready Dickens, Kate, or Katey, was affectionately referred to as "Lucifer Box," because her temper flamed up quickly and warmly, like a tinderbox full of sulfurous lucifer matches, an inferior and volatile forerunner to the 1830s phosphorous match
The Irishman left for London in 1827 & entered the RA School in 1828. He exhibited at the RA in 1829. By the 1830s his work was gathering attention. First Steps (1829), Self-Portrait (1829) & Dionysius Lardner (1830s)
He completed a number of portraits in the mid 1830s including of himself in nature. Extreme poverty overtook him by 1838 & he died ignored by the art community that once feted him. To see his work best visit the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin
Okay, so glitter isnt completely time accurate for 1830s Denmark, but Ariel deserves it.
I'm just so deeply in love with how ridiculous 1830s romantic fashion looked like. The hair, the bonnets the sleeves?????? perfect. everything was so extra
#museumsunlocked #illustration botanical drawings by Augustus Withers (1793-1871)Popular in 1830s & 40s, she worked for @The_RHS & was patronised by Queens Adelaide & Victoria.Sadly she ended her life in St Luke’s Hospital for Lunatics where she died of ‘pneumonia & senile decay’
I was suddenly inspired for a Milotic gijinka last night, so I went with it. 1830s romantic fashion is way too fun lol
