“Lingering Snows” by #WillardLeroyMetcalf, 1924.
#WillardMetcalf has long been my favorite landscape painter. His color subtleties are bar none.
The book is about Hans who visits a friend at a sanatorium in the mountains, and ends up staying 7 years. Time without direction, sense of looming death. Mann's wife was at Waldsanatorium in Davis for 5 months, suffering from tuberculosis, I see, setting the stage. 1924.
Costume design by Will R. Barnes, created between 1923-1924. Looks like a piece of pie to me! #1920s #Fashion #VintageFashion

The Golden Stairs
Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, 1833-1898
Located at the Tate.
Bequeathed by Lord Battersea, 1924.
This painting firmly established Burne-Jones’ image of the slender, pale, and vaguely wistful young woman as the aesthetic standard of beauty. #ThursdayAesthetic 🎨
