Painter Johan Joseph Zoffany RA (Johannes Josephus Zaufallij) was born in Frankfurt 1733. After leaving the court at Regensburg, in 1750, to work in Rome, with Masucci and Piranesi, he moved to Britain, where he became famous for his portraits and conversation pieces.
