Fiddled a bit with Ghost Battle (Amiga). It looks like 32 colour bobs. Quite the dither party. Early work by Henk if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a little manga influence on the character? He skipped gym leg-day and appears to be flaunting his biceps given the opportunity.

yesterday i discovered and lost my bonkers over the fact that krita lets you define your own custom dither patterns to use with gradient maps, and a similar method can be used to make a brush that basically does dither blending instead of alpha blending... how cool is that!!!!
