I think BnW is a good approach to practice lighting! I'd like to share with you that is what i do with most of my artworks! I would first use greyscale so that I can practice lights and shadows first before I put any colors so I think ur taking a good approach to improvement!

Experimenting with working in greyscale and gradient mapping , it’s kinda fun!

Timelapse! <3 It's always fun to colour from greyscale!

Converted the existing color pages of Second Contact to greyscale since it'll be a greyscale comic going forward. I like the lighting and drama of the most recent page.

I am opening up commissions to hopefully help get through some bills while I transition into my new job! I’ve got greyscale sketches and full color pieces on offer. My Ko-Fi is below!

Shares are very much appreciated!

Here's the Boris painting that I held up earlier in this thread as an example of good work from him, converted to greyscale. Lovely control of values here.

As I've said in an earlier thread, Corben does not over-render his figures. The intense colour is deceptive. The light areas in his paintings are typically more subdued than one might think. Convert the new cover to greyscale, and subtle modelling of the forms becomes obvious.
