@BenWoodiwiss The Exorcist 3 is a great sequel and a strong contender.
I’m now thinking that I should include one of my favourite Mephisto movies and include Murnau’s “Faust.” A more subtle sort of ‘possession.’ And a brilliantly sly and mischievous portrayl of the devil.
Veidt und Murnau.

One proposed etymology of 'nosferatu' is that the term originally came from the Greek 'nosophoros', meaning 'disease-bearing'. F. W. Murnau's 'Nosferatu' (1922) strongly emphasizes this theme of disease, and suggests an association with the Spanish Flu that had ravaged Europe.
98 years ago today, F.W. Murnau terrified audiences with one of the earliest horror classics, 1922's NOSFERATU, which would get a remake from Werner Herzog and a fictionalized making-of film starring Willem Dafoe.
What's your favorite moment from the horror classic?
Did you know... the only reason we still have Murnau's NOSFERATU (1922) is that a couple of people *hid* contraband copies?
It was ordered destroyed after a copyright infringement suit brought by Stoker's widow, & almost lost.
It's fanfic, basically. 🤘

She continued to paint the Scenery around Murnau throughout her life & sought to share the emotion the landscapes evinced from her. Schloss Elmau in Winter (1933), Staffelsee (1934), Blauer Kegelberg (1930) & Self-Portrait (1935)
By 1908 she distilled the ideas of Fauvism into her work. Brighter colours & a more impassioned approach characterised her work. She bought a house & settled in Murnau. Blue Mountain (1908), Von Werefkin (1909), Self (1909) & Winter (1909)
