Nov. 21: Who Is My Noir Favorite: Lauren Bacall, Veronica Lake, Barbara Stanwyck, Lizbeth Scott or Claire Trevor? For me, the answer turned on the word noir. As wonderful all of these actors are, I think Lizbeth Scott appeared in more fine noir films.

Day 19 Noir that Starred Actor Not Known for the Genre: Murder, My Sweet starred Dick Powell as Philip Marlowe. At the time Powell was known as a song and dance man in various musicals with Ruby Keeler. He went on to make a handful of fine noir films.

Excellent all around. You might have Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner at top billing (both fantastic), but it’s Edmund O’Brien that really carries the weight.
