This is the only thing I'll say about remakes. I don't mind the style because the sprites were always this chibi style to begin with in gen 4. I think it mixes the old and new pretty well. Of course things will be rough, but it's still in development as we speak. Time will tell.

Decades later, the art that he created for the early games actually found a place inside the games as the new "canonical" look of the characters (and have been implemented into the remakes.)

Dissidia did include a WoL skin closer to the original sprite though.
