Smaugust day 8: nautical
As seabirds/dragons chase shoals of fish, they are in turn chased by wave riders (Undavector navivenator), that use their wings like a sail to catch the wind and ride the waves.

The heatwave here in Devon is beginning to break, the sea might get a bit choppy.
Wherever you are hope you have a good day x

Savanna scatters and the seabird sings
So why should we fear what travel brings?
What were we hoping to get out of this?
Some kind of momentary bliss?

Sharing an old piece for an ashy storm petrel. In 2005 I interned with seabird biologists, spending a few nights on Scorpion Rock helping to catch and band a few birds. They're extremely rare and only nest in sea caves on the islands.

I seen you sparring with a gull. Best leave them be. Bad luck to kill a seabird.

Aphmau found a weird seabird that you’re never gonna make me say the name of. Maybe the name of its genus, which is Sula, but not its actual name. For context, I saw a tending hashtag on Twitter and immediately thought of this bird.

Jufly day 29 - Elegant

Struggled with this one...so I'm not convinced my drawing accurate portrays exactly why I like gannets, but I've always thought they were elegant seabirds. Their wing shape and markings are just so lovely.
