..I’ve been poring over it for years now, but it wasn’t until recently I really LOOKED at his work and realised where I’d been going wrong: I was adding more and more details trying to prefect everything, but a lot of the beauty in his work is the simplification and stylisation!

Since when did comic art become life drawings? Thin waist, big eyes, large hands, big heads. It's called stylisation and it's been part of art, design, and comics for years. You don't have to like it, but you have to accept it.
