Working with a different technique on the splatters underpainting this time. It had a more undersea vibe, so I decided it needed to be a mermaid and her bioluminescent pals
Scan and a little cleanup. If this were a concept for a modeler I'd keep the lighting pretty flat so they wouldn't have to guess at shadow detail. For a painting that was an illustration or part of a pitch I'd tint this the color of the underpainting and work back into it a lot.

Sneak peek! Underpainting details from a new piece I’m working on about the January 6 insurrection. I’m not really happy about doing more Donald Trump satire but unfortunately he’s not going away.
Trying out a different approach, underpainting in a Dioxazine Purple fluid acrylic, watered right down, to block out the darker values. Then my usual watercolour over the top.

'Twas a good year. Learned a lot about colors and how to control them better, learned to incorporate more of my underpaintings into the final.
Still a lot to work on, but definitely a step in the right direction. Thank you to all the people who comm'd me
