I may apply this logic to eyes too, but usually in an even simpler way as just the sky with a tree line cut out.

Goin' clubbin'. A big QoL update to Diablo 1 could be visible weapon models. A lot easier than armours probably. No need to make anything hirez, though certain fine details, effects and advanced self shadowing must be there to match the prerendered style.
