Some artists lose their skill and ambition as they get older and become shadows of their former selves; Corben was Corben from beginning to end. Rest in peace, Richard.

Weird that artist fantastic Richard Corben and beloved actor who looks like a Richard Corben drawing Tiny Listen died on the same day
I like that Corben refused to stay in his lane. Underground cartoonists often eschewed disciplined realism (images 1 & 2), and realistic fantasy artists typically try not to look goofy or unserious (imges 3 & 4). Corben was comfortable straddling both camps.
Forty years later, I think you can still see echoes of my 15-year-old self trying to figure out what Corben was doing in that drawing.
RIP Richard Corben. An astounding artist— both a true master of the nerd-boy imagination AND a super skilled painter whose color work defies description. He also knew how to perfectly walk the line between caricature and realism. He drew art & comics right up to his death at 80
RIP Richard Corben (1940-2020)
A legendary American illustrator and comic book artist
Let's raise a glass to the great #RichardCorben. Here's a few panels from the iconic Hellboy in Mexico story, one of my personal favorites.
I've just read and am sad to say that Richard Corben died today, aged 80. I just read one of his Den stories yesterday. He was a fantastic horror and fantasy illustrator of unique style. His work will be remembered in the history of the ninth art.
