Haunters a good example imo. I think it's mostly due to the fact that the pixel art leaves a lot more up to interpretation (you have to picture the environment, how it acts, moves, etc.) whereas 3D is just like... yep... here he is... floating around all... sinister?

My favorite sassy character I’ve written is Asra the wyvern from my Sleeping Beauty retelling (on the Unseelie King’s shoulder in this picture). She acts like a cat and, although she can’t speak, she tends to get her point across with glares, gestures, and chattering noises.
