Camille Pissarro (10 July 1830 – 13 November 1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas. His importance resides in his contributions to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.

Before roads or railways were built the best way to travel long distances was by sea.The ‘Palmerston’ was a paddle wheel steamship, called a packet as it carried the Royal Mail.
In 1830 the ship was carrying passengers twice a week btw Bristol and Swansea.
