Ninox is a fan favorite now, but she wasn't originally named in the first draft, though early readers/editors nicknamed her Strixette. A lot of characters get unnamed cameos in Eyrie (Henders at the gardens, Biski), but Ninox is one of the few who ultimately had her name added.

Late night fact: while writing the first draft of Eyrie, the reference I used for Ninox was a black-banded owl clutching its talons like it was a cartoon villain saying "Next time, squirrel. Next time!"

Black-banded owls are a type of strix owl, surprising no one.
