We used an Isometric Grid to make this and to be honest, I’ve never done anything like this before AND I LOVED IT

Just found this #pico8 Metroid mock-up I did a while back.
To save cart space the NES game stored its map as a grid of screens, each screen was a list of prefab blocks with xy coords. Would work well for Pico-8, but an original game would need a custom map editor.
@NanoPierogi @koleross I can imagine that some of them went off the grid after they got sick of humans texting their transmitter all day. They don't have thumbs to text you back!

@m1ndg4mes I didn't completely abandon the cubic-ness with moonglows roofs though ;)
I made sure to keep to the voxel look by having edges on-grid (and the player home has one roof bit like the above piece)
This allows for a nice mix of architectural styles found in that part of canada :)

Good luck, it took me ages to do the triangles as they are just not normal. No grid helps and there is no straight line tool in sketchbook besides the ruler. I'm really proud of it tho
