Inktober! I'm doing bugs. I love/hate them and New Mexico seems to have a lot of them. Here is a Tarantula Hawk Wasp our state insect -- the sting is described as electrifying and totally debilitating.

Its amazing how vivid the blues and yellows are on the Poecilotheria metallica. Tarantulas are thought to have relatively poor vision so its likely that this is part of some threat display.
