Finally finished this for mermay, even if it's late. I always love to draw mermaids, especially because they're such a good change to study anatomy and really focus on the body as well as the environment and lighting.

i use a multiply layer for shading and a screen or soft light layer for highlights/lighting. also, gradients and the airbrush tool are my best friends. also, yellow. i somehow manage to put yellow in almost all my art.
