I read a folktale where a character was trying to trick a blind woman into believing that they were her pigs. Something had happened to her pigs. I can't remember the plot, but "pretending to be the pig" was the catalyst for this painting. https://t.co/toaujcJMkC

One of my favourite folktales is 'The Mermaid of Zennor'. It's a Cornish tale which tells about a mermaid who falls in love with Mathey Trewella, the best singer of the parish. The couple disappears and are never seen on land again.
