To design this pin, I was inspired by the Cecropia Silkmoth, a moth that lives in the east of the Rocky Mountains. Its original colors are black, red, and white. I also had to simplify the design in order for it to fit on a pin ;)

If you're working with the MLAATR style, learn to SIMPLIFY. The top "hairdo" is slightly more accurate to Mach's ref-sheet; the bottom one is far less detailed, and fits the show better as a result. This helps me SO much.

I wonder if there has been a personal confusion to you as to what makes Murasaki's beautiful character design, hard to work with? I think some of the patterns make for difficult to simplify, 'erroneous guess' maybe required, etc.

Think I am all done with leg muscle studies now it's onto applying and simplifying.

Getting closer to finishing my first run through of anatomy. After legs is just hands and feet then I want to do some full body type studies.

Here's a redesign I did for fun of Akemi from Shotaro Ishinomori's adaptation of Matango. She's not in the movie, I speculate she was a composite character based on the main female cast in order to simplify the story to better fit the manga format.

Really! It is a painful process (rewarding at the end) I try to draw from memory first so I can see which elements stood out to me. I simplify to the max (because if I'm going to draw that character again, I should pick an easy design) but I still try to make him recognizable.
