오래 전 타지에서 들어온 들고양이(silcvestris)가 안쪽땅의 환경에 적응하며 분화한 아종. 크기는 집고양이의 평균보다 약간 큰 7kg 대이며 주 서식지는 산림과 강가, 대나무숲 등.
몸 가로를 가로지으는 흰 무늬가 특징이다.
