Likely not the first time a Fatal Fury character is named after a manga character. I suspect Joe Higashi might had been named after Jō Azuma from the Genma Taisen franchise. Azuma and Higashi are spelled with the same kanji (東 丈).

In SEA, it's called Mr Queen: Love's Choice but Love and Producer ~EVOL×LOVE~ in Japan.

Oh, and the hot boy on the bottom right is called Gavin in English but Haku in Japan.

Still a cool franchise.
