I Paint the whole draw with usually blue/purple/brown then I use "multiply" and adjust so it doesn't look so dark, later I grab a brush and blocking it I erase the areas where the light goes, and then I add extra lights

Sounds a little weird! But gives a effect like this

Don't know why I made a colored sketch in the beginning. I changed the composition anyway. Then, with the linework done, I did a 'rough color-blocking' using a similar palette.
And next, I can finally color it for real.
No wonder every piece takes me forever 😂

While it helps to use tone as shadow, you don’t need to know advanced lighting techniques to add this aspect to your drawings. Simple blocking of three or four tones is enough to do the trick.
