Yup, to call it unfair isn't unfair. 😉
Last time I was cheating my way through (infinite lives) and I still found myself giving up on every stage after the first.

I've played the Amiga version much more than the C64 version. So I still hear that "waaaah!" in my head, anyway. 😁

My Favourite Games of 1988 – No. 5

Armalyte

Technically outstanding and boasting gorgeous graphics, top tunes & eight amazing levels of beautifully designed, exhilarating blasting action, Armalyte is arguably the all-time No. 1 shoot ‘em up for the C64. Simply incredible.

Ikari Warriors

John Twiddy (The Last Ninja) did a superb job of converting Ikari Warriors to the C64. Ram packed with frantic action, this run & gun game is rock hard but extremely playable & very enjoyable, especially in two-player co-op mode.

Cybernoid 1 & 2

I couldn’t separate these superb shooters, so I’ve put them together on my list. Highly polished with excellent graphics, stunning music & hard-as-nails flick screen arcade action, they’re two of the C64’s very best blasters.

I.O.

I.O. feels and looks fantastic. Bob Stevenson’s backgrounds and the amazing end of level baddies are incredible – some of the C64’s greatest ever visuals. Gameplay is nothing new, but it’s addictive, rewarding and extremely challenging.

I must be getting old.
Young-me would have totally tried to see how much it would take to slow things down. 😎
Now, I just put YouTube up on the second screen, and concentrate on my C64 gaming. 😋

Is it Back to the Future or It Follows? You be the judge! Someone needs to get in the DeLorean and give Martin Walker a bit more time on this one, or so Zapped to the Past thought in ep23.

Remembered the incredibly atmospheric Dante's Inferno for the C64 today (the 2nd adaptation of the 14th-century classic - there was also a TRS-80 text adventure), a game I could hardly understand at the time but one I still loved roaming just for the eerie environments & mood
