'Cricket and Convolvulus' by Qi Baishi (1864-1957) one of the greatest exponents of this style of painting. Qi didn't start painting until he was in his twenties. I learned of him in a painting class at Guanghwa, London, which, to my surprise, was conducted entirely in Mandarin.
On this day in 1864, Confederate raiders riding out of Canada rob a bank in St. Albans, Vermont. It's the northernmost land action of the Civil War.
