2 of my Favorite Narrative themes in Dragon Ball,JTTW and media in general is the idea of Duality and Balance. Due to the fact that balance is something that must be maintained Dragon Ball plays on this consistently and it does It very well.

Toriyama loves to play opposites when it comes to referencing JTTW. When Son Wukong was born of the earth his presence is discovered in heaven. Goku is born of the “Heavens” (space) and discovered on earth. Pretty cool.

A little comic based on some scenes of the show.
(If you wanna watch it, you could find it easily on Youtube by "Journey To The West 1996 dub English")

RED BOY! (JTTW 1996)
I already finished to watch the series and i'm so inspired to draw some characters based on the LMK characters. I wanna start with Red Son because i LOVED the Redboy's dressing in the show!!

The ability to create copies and grow into a giant that are associated with spirit control in Dragon Ball Super, are a direct reference to the abilities Son Wukong learned in JTTW.

For the longest time I thought Wukong’s red scleras were just some niche popular fandom HC but apparently it’s canon JTTW lore

This isn't a comparison I just want to look at my old jttw art (and realize how my taste in character never changed-)

I really had fun drawing this one. Man does it feel good to break out from artblock.
I hope I never get artblock like this one ever again.
