Yas' original 1974 football star Akira vs Toyoo Ashida's near parody of the concept for UFO Senshi Dai Apolon in 1976, animated and produced by Eiken during the boom in combining Mecha series.
Early concepts drafted by Yas for Akira fashioned him according to the Soeisha planning office's concepts, in which Akira would be an "American footballer" who's flight uniform would reflect his occupation. This pre-dates concepts found in UFO Senshi Dai Apolon in 1976.
Domel drawn by Yas in the same episode; assuredness is passed along in the strength of Domel's jawline and determined, slightly settled brows. This energy wouldn't return to Yas' character design until 0079.
Yas' hyper modern character gags in the same episode, in this case, using the tools he honed at Mushi-Pro for physical gag comedy.
small instances in which Yas drawing show up in episode 17, though as his involvement began to wane alongside the sudden lapse of consistency within Yamato, Yas' drawings seem to show up as only Key frames.
Yas drawing in 1974, characterized by elongation, jauntiness, action oriented lines, and severe features, versus 40+ years later. All the while, it had to start somewhere!
Yas absolving to a few simplistic Zero Tester-esque lines for episode 8 of Yamato, but in such a case, he handles this male character with the same striking details, even down to the jowls. Lines are broken in 74' versus the continual lines in 73'.
Yamato, famously and extensively bankrolled, was reported by Yas in later years to have 'over 60 shades of grey' in regards to the cel paint used for animation. All shadows were to be outlined with another thinner shadow by Nishizaki's standards, of which improved Yas' drawings:
Yas doing away with any form of jauntiness when rendering the figures that were done in the story board and retranslated to cels, only a year apart.
Changes, years apart, in how Yas handles this sort of gesture for a male villain. Season 2 of Zero Tester in 74' and Char Aznable illustrated sometime in 1980/1981. Both characters are wildly different, but serve as a foil for the main protagonists in their respective series.
Vash the stampede? More like YAS the stampede am I right or am I right♥️ #TRIGUN https://t.co/OY0Y02VIRy
Zero Tester's main cast, handled by Moribi Murano in the 73' opening on the left and the 74' opening on the right by Yas. Yas transmutes and learns from Moribi while improving upon his gestures in such a short period of time. In this case, his males are far more vivacious.
