Fluffy tail is my default. I think I'm more likely to make it pointy on a character that I think might be unfriendly or dangerous. It can be a bit arbitrary though.

I actually designed few characters for one of those, T.M Wilson's Arena. Didn't know there was a term. None of these went in sadly, but observed how it goes. Fights were decided by popularity rather than some arbitrary rules. It's pretty chill imo.
