I'll absolutely be real, one thing I absolutely miss of cel animation is definitely the amazing backlit techniques you could use with them
It was super complicated to use tho, given that means film exposing and stuff.. BUT it looks so much more realistic, I can't get enough of it

I think you're referring to what is called a backlighting or "halo effect". It's really hard to draw and I'm still trying to learn myself, here's my recent attempt below. I recommend looking up lighting layers tutorials and backlit references (backlit suit photo refs added here)
