Given Bakshi’s stated admiration for Rackham and the similarities here, I think we can trace a chain of visual influence from Rackham, to Bakshi, to Howe, and eventually to Jackson. 10/12
Anyone remember Ralph Bakshi?
WIZARDS (1977) comes to mind, the lost style of his animation was gorgeous in a rough comic way.
He was even the animation director on HALLOWEEN 3 (1982)
Great stuff…they don’t draw them like Bakshi anymore!
In a post apocalyptic future that appears as a blend of World War II Europe and J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, a pint-size wizard named Avatar must save the world from a band of fascist mutants controlled by his evil twin brother, Blackwolf. #Wizards (1977) 🧙♂️🧚♀️

I remember always seeing it at the video store as a kid & never being able to rent it because it was ALWAYS out! I finally saw it in 2000. Have ALWAYS been a #RalphBakshi fan. Thought it was time to revisit! #NowWatching #Wizards (1977)🧙♂️

those of you who are big animation fans may regognize donald wildmon and the AFA from their protests and boycott of Ralph Bakshi's Mighty Mouse the New Adventures for alleged "drug use" however this was far from the only show the AFA attacked during the 70's, 80's and 90's
Mucha atención a THE SPINE OF NIGHT, una fantasía épica repleta de violencia explícita, decapitaciones, magia negra, cultos y brujería. Hablan de ella como una mezcla entre Juego de Tronos, Heavy Metal y El señor de los anillos de Bakshi. Tuvo muy buenas críticas en SXSW.
@MakinitaSilva It really is difficult to do just 4, but here's 4 favorite one-offs of mine:
Trees and Jamaica Daddy (1957, Lew Keller/Fred Crippen)
Katnip Kollege (1938, Cal Dalton/Cal Howard)
Marvin Digs (1967, Ralph Bakshi)
Funny Is Funny (1966, Ed Graham)
Dear @am_cinematheque, can you please do a program on independent American animation? Don Bluth, Ralph Bakshi, Bill Plympton & more deserve to be honored & celebrated for their incredible, influential art.
Watercolor painting, hoping to get back into the swing of things
Tried going for a more Ralph Bakshi approach I suppose
Series of concept backgrounds by Ian Miller for Ralph Bakshi's Wizards (1977)
Drew my gf as a Ralph Bakshi cartoon for her. She had me only exaggerate a liiiiiitle.

Before P Jackson there was Ralph Bakshi. His 1978 animated version of Lord of Rings brings back happy memories of early video stores. Just revisited & reminded that landscape frames are gorgeous. Rotoscope technique still gives an other-worldly quality. Shame we never got part 2.
@tictacsnack on the topic of ralph bakshi, these cool world backgrounds. enough said.

recent ep of #MuppetBabies where they have a sequence spoofing Lord of The Rings in the style of Ralph Bakshi's film. Happy to have given the chance to design and paint some of the BGs for it. Definitely out of my comfort zone but glad to see how they came out! #MuppetLOTR
