Tonight's #fridayreads is an Ethan Reckless OGN by Brubaker/Phillips, Friend of the Devil. Full of bloodshed tied to the 80's Satanic Panic.
"Cooke and Brubaker redid Catwoman in the year 2000. It's been more than 20 years. My thought was: 'What happens if you took that Catwoman and aged her up 20 years? What would she be doing now? What is that world like?' That was my starting point for this story." @cliffchiang
Iron Fist has been written by dozens of talented writers throughout the ages! From Roy Thomas to Kurt Busiek to Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker!
What are some writers who haven’t been on an Iron Fist or Power Man and Iron Fist book that you’d like to see take a shot at it?

-F4 Mythos by Paul Jenkins
-Books of Doom by Ed Brubaker
Both good introductions to the characters and how they came to be the people they are now
Graeme argues that this makes Blake a terrible doctor, and normally I'd agree. But I wondered if what he might be seeing beneath the mask is something like what the journalist in Ed Brubaker and Pablo Raimondi's "Books of Doom" sees: (3/4)

The amazing thing about the team of Brubaker/Epting is how it can take such fantastical concepts like costumed heroes & villains, Cap, Skull, AIM, Helicarriers, Crossbones, hologram buildings, cosmic cubes, and still make everything feel 100% grounded and from the real world.

There's gonna me a lot of talk about Brubaker, so I wanted to take the moment up front to just say that Steve Epting's art is AMAZING. The perfect artist for this series.
Also, telling the story from Red Skull's perspective was really cool, & that ending is still a shocker!
speaking of crime comics, this week @Thatjakeowens, myself, and @SteveSBaxi reviewed all of brubaker/phillips' reckless graphic novels...check it out!

Eyes Of The Dragon is a five-part storyline running from issues 6-10 of SECRET AVENGERS in which Fu Manchu, now definitively renamed to Zheng Zu, is brought back via a resurrection ritual which requires Shang-Chi's blood! Brubaker brings the spy story back to Shang in full force.
today @Thatjakeowens makes his debut on the site with a great piece on Reckless, Vol. 1, the Brubaker and Phillips book that launched one of the best OGN series in all of comics
oh, and I stay tuned later this week for pieces about Vol. 2 and Vol. 3!

Read The Fade Out by Brubaker/Philips and it's up there with their best stuff. Good mystery and characters, unique sense of place, and despite dripping in the noir genre, never quite knew where it was going.
RECOMMENDED:
RECKLESS VOLUME 1

First two Reckless books, by #EdBrubaker, @seanpphillips and @jacobr_phillips were excellent 1980's LA surf noir. The third one, Destroy All Monsters, takes things to the next level.

For reasons I can't explain a few years ago I sold off all my trades of the Brubaker/Fraction/Gillen era of Uncanny X-Men and today I severely severely regret that.
When we talk about X-Men team members who are not mutants, I feel like we forget one of my favorite characters, who was part of the X-Men in the Ed Brubaker's run:
Mam'selle Hepzibah😼
