Mio Nishizono is an old fave of mine, and still my favourite Key girl. I love her she contrasts the rest of the cast. Everyone else is so full of energy, but she is so quiet, soft-spoken, gentle and calm.

Which image for the mask?

I began with the work that’s closest to my heart, the WIP for my ORIGINS collection.

The image I chose is AI, representing Eos, goddess of the dawn. Dawn is a moment of contrasts, and transitions.

I felt she had something in common with the OG.

Not surprising for a Hosoda episode, light and shadow also play a very important role here. Stark contrasts between shady silhouettes & strong light sources, elongated shadows, and parts of character bodies illuminated through cracks in doors are vital in setting the mood.

I updated the planet while maintaining my admittedly odd use of shapes and spatial from the original. I think the original used vey harsh lines and color contrasts, so my new art is a little easier on the eyes

To properly answer the question, I chose this environment because, having mostly grown up in an arid environment, this lake always seemed fantastical. I always knew Suihira would have that environment. It contrasts well with the dry desert in which most of the comic takes place.

tbh I imagine him with dark hair but canonically he is supposed to have straw blonde hair... so I decided to choose any color that contrasts well next to Reg and Evan, lol.
