These are Fraktur, a highly elaborate illuminated folk graphics practised by the Pennsylvania Dutch and Germans between 1740-1860. Often used on birth certificates, love tokens or blessings. One common motif are distelfinks, or stylised goldfinches.

Trichomonosis has become a problem in my garden birds. This parasitic disease affects finches. Over the past weeks, I've seen finches looking lethargic, fluffed up but actually starving, as they cannot eat or drink. Found one dead. I'm taking down my feeders for at least 2 weeks
