Two battalions served in Crimea.

Other regiments had Rifles by this point (the Minie), towards the end of the war the RB received the Long Enfield Rifle.

In the earlier stages of the war, they led attacks & rearguards. But still suffered in the trenches.

Bvt Brig. General Frederick Benteen was born in 1834. He served in the Western Theater during the war, rising to Colonel and commanding a regiment of US Colored Troops. A Captain under Custer, he survived the battle, but was widely criticized for failing to come to Custer’s aid.

Cpl Styles & his Squadron Leader, Capt Alexander Kennedy Clarke of the Life Guards, captured the Eagle of the 105eme Regiment during hand-to-hand fighting.

Cpl Styles received a promotion to Sergeant as a reward.

Chatfield was originally an officer in the 1st and 3rd Connecticut Infantry Regiments before being made commander of the 6th in September, 1861. He commanded them in the Department of the South for almost two years, and was wounded at the Battle of Pocotaligo.
