Really throwing myself into abstraction lately whilst trying to find a balance between an emerging style and my natural style.
This one gives me #chaimsoutine energy.

10/ Chaim Soutine (1893-1943) is such a powerful and underrated artist. Boy does his food art pack a punch. Basically, he's saying the opposite to Prue Leith. Death is what we're here for, and no amount of happy baking can change that. So no - he's not a happy bunny! #FoodInArt
Chaim Soutine met Modigliani in the Montparnasse area of Paris around 1914.
They developed a close friendship and Modigliani painted Soutine's portrait several times.

The beauty of his cooks & waiters is that in theory their uniforms should erase their individuality. But Soutine uses that sameness to emphasise their uniqueness. Bellboy (c1925), the Best Man (c1924), Woman enters the Water (c1931) & Plucked Goose (1932-3).
He loved Rembrandt & studied his beef pictures. These are paintings of animal flesh. Soutine took Rembrandt’s idea & liberated the concept further. In painting flesh he asks what is life. Mutton (c1920), Portrait of a Young Girl (c1920), Self-Portrait (c1920-1) & the Beef (c1920)
