Thanks to I found out that Groenlandaspis had a reddish dorsal side and silvery, iridescent scales on its flanks and underside. This coloration reminds me a lot of lampriforms like opah, ribbonfishes, and oarfishes.

Here's sample pic if this helps (ignore the fact that it isn't smooth gradients, I was using a tool made for pixelart lol)
It's generally the underside of shapes that gets darker (light coming from above) or covered by e.g. hair. Also don't be afraid to go strong on the shadows.

-in low light areas, the underside of their cranial tails and pupils becomes bio-luminescent. the color of the glow is determined mostly by genetics and ferosity by emotion.

-their cranial tails are very sturdy, able to take 1-2 blaster shots without irreversible damage.

Originally designed this guy to decorate the underside of floating shelves, but needed to make some modification to the design, so this particular one worked as just a tabletop piece.

If you want to cut by hand old school style, I swear by this paring knife with a flat underside. Get it with a 1000/6000 grit whetstone

I have mentioned the Bugglings have only teeth and no tongue. Very little taste buds, but they taste what they smell.

However, the underside of their Mouth hands are soft with lots taste buds.

So this, would be extremely mind breaking for her~

A minor update to this earlier piece, but I've fixed the values on Kagura's winter uniform. The color I'd always use for the shadows up till now would always diminish each time I'd bloom the highlights, so this time I've darkened them.
I've also shaded the underside of the shirt.

It's To tell a swift from a swallow or martin, look for their dark underside (swallows and martins have pale bellies). Their large wings can appear boomerang-shaped as they soar in groups against the summer sky, calling to each other in high-pitched screams.

I present you my new Ref Sheet! He is a Snake-Fox hybrid with scales running from the neck, down to the pudgy round belly, and to the underside of the tail. The rest is orange fox fur!

IRL pang tails - scaled, flat undersides, with rigid sides that allow them to cover and defend themselves. it's long, so it can be used as a counter weight so their front legs can be used for digging.
Teshy's tail - BIG FAT FLESHY WIGGLY NOODLE. perfect for chomping.

*Some vocalists gave ideas for some of the designs

Ruby: Overall design wasn't too heavy on any specific Lizard but rather a mix between aiming for an elegant dragon mixed with an Indian pangolin. Skinlike "underside" and "hair" scale extension in the original R1 sprite

Reposting one of my favorite D&D character designs I've done so far. A circle of the stars druid who keeps her star map etched onto the underside of the bearskin she wears.
