One approach to get a lot of mileage from limited palettes like the palette is to make mini-palettes for each sprite, so that if you half-close your eyes, color blobs are distinct from background. It's like blending/ dithering, just not ordered ▒

I started drawing on my phone using Ibis Paint tutorial, it allowed me to get used to the blending modes. This drawings was made by my finger.

The next drawing was made in clip studio. I didn't know what to do bc the program and brushes were so different from Ibis Paint.

Here is what I'm talking about. The lines on the apple are dark red and on the face & hands, they are brown-ish. It gives a better blending and makes the lineart look thinner
