Almost a year ago, I couldn't simplify the shapes at all and drew mostly by looking at the photos, so the characters look more muscular!

I actually agree, even with Yuki Yuna anime they had to "simplify" the character design. Abec's style is really unique and detailed, making it animated would not give it justice, imo.

After some faffing, I threw them out entirely and used this old sketch of mine to inspire some boys instead, using a lineless style. Still not that happy with this one but it was helpful in my current quest to simplify and loosen up my human character style!
