What I don't get is that the guy looks just like Pendragon, but the instructions call him the "Lone Rider". Which kinda hints that he's not, but they were too lazy to draw the sprite of someone else.

Also, that "duck" move look like his entire torso is sucked into his pelvis. 😮

Definitely. I'm not sure how many people would even work out how to get into the trapulator without instructions, as double-click just wasn't a common thing back then. And the trap that's set against furniture, then the door. Then the things to find, the case to carry them. etc.

Spy vs Spy was such an unusual licensed game.
After getting it, I had a good read though of the instructions on the way home. Makes the world of difference when you know how it all works. 😄
