After playing 6 and 7 I started to appreciate the good stuff X8 does in comparison. One of the better games in the series but it isn’t perfect. Level design can be questionable at points, many spikes. And the retry chips suck. good game

Quick & dirty "squint test" for palette layout on the Super Game Boy version.

This is complicated by the fact that I use 8x7 tiles, but SGB works on 8x8 tiles, so things don't line up. Additionally, SGB has a 3 colors per palette, while Game Boy Color has 4.
