I add colors onto the grayscale with overlay, color, and multiply layers where ever i need to. The skin and the hair and eyes and such are all on overlay layers and blush on a multiply. U dont have to do it exactly like this. Just mess around with colors and layer effects.

Shading tutorial (or at least how I do it)

1. New clipping mask layer

2. Set it to multiply and lower the opacity to 35%

3. Choose a dark pink~purple color (for this I chose this color)

4. Happy shading!

with color WIP. Another painting over a toned sketch, this time using Multiply and Overlay. Again, so intimidating. Sometimes you just gotta jump in and trust your instincts will guide you. 11

On the new shading layer, I use a light purple with a hard round brush. The Multiply blend mode does all the heavy lifting, but here's what it looks like after I rough the shade in.

Then with smartly applying the blur tool to the edges and lowering the opacity to 50.

So I got bored and I’ve just been practicing on shading with multiply layers. I like it a lot! It’s been keeping my mind preoccupied lately. I’ve not been feeling too great in recent days, so it’s nice to just draw and listen to music at times. It always makes me feel better! :D

idk if this makes sense but i used a dark red/purple and set it to multiply, lower the opacity and then clean the layer up a bit

I found a watercolor brush on the CSP material database that I really like. most watercolor brushes either lack the right texture, or multiply like crazy when you pick up the brush. This one hits the look and feel that makes me feel like I'm doing real watercolor sketches.
