Mabel Dwight (1876-1955) was 50 when she began to practice art seriously. Interested in lithography, Dwight, who was deaf, was a keen observer of the human comedy, which she depicted with humor and compassion in her work.

Princess Amira in right is deaf and Renne in left is legally blind handmaid and interpreter for the deaf princess. They both know sign language but Renna is able to hear the princess's signs like magic even though she can't see.

My 93 year old grandma is nearly entirely deaf and blind, but one thing that still brings her out of her bubble is when I bring my dog Jables and put him on her lap. She can pet him for hours with a smile on her face❤

Illness struck the artist (1792-3) & left him deaf. It’s likely that the sense of isolation led to his dark & startling Caprichos (published in 1799). These were macabre images from his subconscious which continue to inhabit the viewer’s mind, once seen.
