For me personally, I found that you need a similar approach for pixel art, especially for something like say, the Game Boy or NES.

You have a very limited space to convey a head, body, arms and legs. What are the bare minimum shapes that you need to make them recognizable?

What bugged me the most from Dissidia is the FF1 hero, Warrior of Light...
As far as I know, most players had the Fighter class be the lead character, but the Dissidia design looks nothing like the fire-red Warrior from the NES days, except as an alternate costume
